Bed linen for summer

Cool covers for warm nights

In summer, we look forward to the warm temperatures during the day. But at night they can make us suffer and make our sleep more difficult. If you sweat at night and are wet, you are also threatened with a cold. In order to maintain a pleasant sleeping climate even at high temperatures, it is important to choose the right bed linen for the summer.

Matching textiles for every season

Some underestimate the contribution that the right bed linen can make to the respective season to increase our sleeping comfort and well-being. While we want it warm and cuddly in bed in winter, we like it rather cool in the summer months, so that we do not simmer in our own juice. In concrete terms, this means that the bed linen for the summer has to meet requirements other than one for the winter. It should be made of light, absorbent and cooling materials to support a pleasantly cool sleeping climate. Of course, light duvet covers and sheets do not replace summer duvets or winter duvets. Nevertheless, you contribute your part for a pleasant sleeping climate!

What distinguishes a good summer bed linen

Summer linen on is characterized by airy, light, smooth materials that lie soft and light on the skin at high temperatures and have a cooling effect. Thanks to their breath- and moisture-regulating as well as temperature-balancing properties, they ensure a comfortable, harmonious sleeping environment and high well-being, even on hot summer nights. In addition, the materials dry quite quickly and dissipate the moisture. This prevents excessive sweating or heat build-up under the duvet. Good summer bed linen is usually washable at 60 °C.

Comparison of different materials in terms of their suitability as light summer bed dinging

Seersucker is an airy, light and iron-free material with a ruched surface and perfect for lightweight bedding. Thanks to the rafting, a pleasant air circulation is favored and the heat is kept from the body.

However, there are differences in quality in this material, as a distinction is made between the wrong and the real seersucker. With the wrong seersucker, the chemically produced corrugation washes out over time.

With real Seersucker, the reefing is achieved by weaving, so that it lasts forever. Washing does not destroy the woven ripple pattern.

Jersey (Interlock Jersey)

This fabric is particularly finely ply and is produced using fine knitting weaving technology. Thanks to the special technology, Jersey is very supple, elastic and soft. The special mesh structure ensures high breathability and airiness. The fibres for jerseys are usually made of a combination of silk, cotton and polyester. The fine bed dinging quality feels soft and supple on the skin and has a good absorbency, which makes it predestined for summer stretch bed sheets, for example.

Mako Satin

This solid fabric with atlas binding is made of 100% pure cotton and has a very smooth, supple and shiny surface thanks to its weave. The silky finish feels pleasant and cool on the skin, especially in the warm season. Mako means that these are super combed cotton fibres with a stack length of at least 30 mm. Due to its air-conditioning, moisture-balancing and breathable properties, Mako-Satin is recommended for both duvet cover and pillowcases in summer. By the way, Mako-Satin does not necessarily need to be ironed thanks to its smooth weaving structure. An exclusive brand that prefers to deal with this material is, for example, Sansibar.

This fine cotton fabric has a canvas binding and resembles the fabric of Renforcé and Linon, but differs in the thread structure. At Perkal, it is finer than with conventional canvas-binding fabrics. Whether for ceiling cover or bed sheets, Perkal is considered a noble and wonderfully cooling, quick-drying material for summer nights. Its smooth surface, high breathability and good absorbency make Perkal an incomparably skin-friendly fabric that is ideal for light summer bedding.

This cotton fabric is particularly durable and absorbs moisture well. In doing so, it also releases the moisture well back to the environment. It is pleasantly soft and has a temperature-balancing effect, making it ideal for light bedding in summer. Its skin-friendly properties ensure a pleasant and restful sleep. High-quality Renforcé bed linen is available from Cotonea, for example.

Linen is made with the fibres from the flax plant. The silky shiny and very durable quality ensures a pleasant skin feeling, which the material as bed linen for the summer gives the sleeping person. In addition, linen quickly absorbs moisture and dries quickly. Thanks to its antibacterial properties, it can inhibit the growth of bacteria. At the same time, the material ensures a balanced and harmonious bed climate on warm summer nights. However, linen wrinkles quite quickly and is therefore not iron-free.

The skin-friendly, lightweight, densely woven material is usually made of linen, cotton, polyester or silk in canvas binding. Cotton batist is considered luxurious and durable. Due to its good breathability and moisture balance, it is often used for light summer bedding.

Beavers and fine beavers as bed linen unsuitable for summer

The particularly dense cotton fabric can be roughed on one side or on two sides. The fluffiest is fine beaver. Beavers and fine beavers are ideal for winter due to their roughened, cuddly, warming surface and should only be used on cool summer nights.

Otherwise, they are rather counterproductive for the warm season, even if they have a high breathability and can absorb moisture well.

Whatever bed linen on you choose, make sure the material is airy, can absorb moisture well, balance temperatures and cool in summer. Summer bed linen should always provide a harmonious, healthy feeling of sleep and contribute to rest and regeneration at night.
